The old standby enters the green scene.
The Look: The diapers in our particular pack sported a simple, if uninspired, celestial design that doesn’t veer far from that of traditional Pampers. While it’s nice to see restraint when it comes to dyes, the vanilla appearance lands Pure toward the bottom of the pack in the cuteness category.
Absorbency: Pampers promises these diapers lock wetness away from skin for up to 12 hours: While our tester maxed out at six hours of wear, 12 seems within the realm of possibility. One diaper was super drenched come change time, but miraculously baby’s clothes were dry. The liner’s so-called “LockAway Channels” really do their job—and cutely sport the brand’s signature heart pattern to boot.
Comfort: This is a nice slender diaper, so (for better or worse) it doesn’t slow the wearer down. A cotton-enhanced outer cover makes for a softer, more clothlike, and less crunchy feel than other green diapers we’ve felt. Our tester—a sensitive little one who’s prone to both eczema and diaper rash—didn’t experience any irritation. Stretchy gussets and side tabs also seem to up the comfort factor, but oddly there’s no give in the waistband.
Notable Materials: Cotton and other plant-based materials comprise the outer portions; shea butter enriches the liner. Zero chlorine used in the manufacturing process.
Cost: from $.33/each (Amazon)
The Verdict: Solid. While Pure is not winning any awards for creativity, it’ll do its core jobs of keeping your kiddo dry and comfy. It’s also an unintimidating gateway into the world of eco-friendly diapering—especially for the Pampers faithful.
