Team of MIT Engineers (moms, coincidentally!) on a quest to offer the most natural and gentle diaper on the market.

The Look: Before you even glimpse the Kudos diapers Review, you can tell they’re going to be cute: Packaging—a bag sourced from sugarcane—is all fun and festive, and a sheet of stickers with diapering-related sayings (i.e. “reporting for doody”) accompanies the goods. Nice touch. The diapers’ prints (each size offers two colorful designs to choose from) are meant to capture baby’s attention by complementing their cognitive developmental stage. We opted for a math print because the description told us that little ones exposed to math do better at it later in life. Worth a try, right? Our tester had no real interest in the geometry happening on his bum, but he looked extra adorable.

Absorbency: Daytime wear proved to be a success in this category, with no leaks or wetness-induced bulkiness to speak of. Kudos doubles up on absorption layers and claims they’re suitable for overnight wear. While testing this always gives us pause, it was our duty to go for it. Happy to report our tester woke up with a wet diaper, but dry jammies.

Comfort: Although they’re a tad stiffer than others we’ve tested, all touchable surfaces of Kudos are pretty soft. No issues with irritation and no complaints from the diapered. The back waistband and leg cuffs have plenty of give, but for the ease of the diaper-changer, the side tabs could use more length and stretch.

Notable Materials: If you’re concerned with green diapering (which you are), a whole lot of great reading awaits on the company’s website. Our takeaways: this is the first disposable diaper offering a liner made from 100% cotton. The goal is to make the whole shebang 100% plant-based, but in the meantime everything’s sourced from renewable materials instead of fossil-fuel derived diaper materials, and there’s not a shred of plastic. The core is chlorine-free and the outer cover is derived from sugar cane.

Cost: from $.36 each (Kudos.com)

The Verdict: Cute, functional, and very thoughtfully constructed. Not the softest specimen, but a contender for the most fun.
