Aquaphor Baby Advanced Therapy Healing Ointment: The do-it-all salve, rebundled as a made-for-baby alternative

Aquaphor Baby Advanced Therapy Healing Ointment is a go-to solution for baby skin. It's essentially the same as the classic version, but repackaged with a 'Baby' label.

Look, feel, and scent: Like its made-for-everyone counterpart, Aquaphor Baby is opaque, greasy, and fragrance-free. In fact, if you’re familiar with the O.G. Aquaphor ointment, you’re already acquainted with this too because, well, it’s an identical product, re-packaged with the words “Baby” and “Pediatrician” and a drawing of a diaper-clad crawler slapped on the bottle.

Effectiveness: We know Aquaphor as a treatment for angry skin–whether irritated, dry, or otherwise. Aquaphor Baby’s packaging suggests it works on diaper rash and drool rash as well, and we tested it for the latter. It slicked onto our little subject’s chin and cheeks, leaving a greasy sheen that he didn’t much care for. We hoped at least some of the product soaked in, despite his attempts to immediately wipe it off. After a few days of use, the skin irritation had minimized but not disappeared. And the battle between “Mom the Applier” and “Baby the Wiper-Offer” raged on.

Ingredients: As previously noted, ingredients are identical to regular ol’ Aquaphor: 41% petrolatum and six “inactive ingredients” not worth naming. So…while you could pay $3.63 per ounce for a vaguely more fun package, you could get the same product for nearly half the price–at $2.06 per ounce. If that isn’t a microcosm of all the shenanigans within the baby product industry, not sure what is!

Price: $10.89 for 3 ounces
