Bottle of Honest Shampoo + Body Wash in Citrus Vanilla – Clean Baby Care Product Review

Look, feel, and scent: As with all of Honest’s products, the smart packaging and lovely label all but catapult this stuff off the shelf. A cleverly designed pump (just tricky enough to use that Baby can’t dump the whole thing in one fell swoop) dispenses a slightly opaque liquid with a faint scent. (There’s also an unscented option for those extra-sensitive littles.) We chose to test the citrus vanilla offering, which the label calls “refresh.” Can’t say it had that effect–or that our spunky subject needed any sort of energy boost–but it did glide on like silk in both skin and hair. A tad more lather would’ve been nice, but otherwise no gripes.

Effectiveness: Hair was left fluffy and smelling faintly like an orange blossom; skin was mostly cleansed of temporary tattoo residue. While we knew better than to test the “tear-free” claim, we can confirm that no screaming occurred during hair washing. Even without trying the version meant specifically for sensitive skin, our sensitive subject had zero irritation after use.

Ingredients: The first ingredient is water–always a positive when it comes to things we’re slathering on our most precious possessions. Calendula leaf extract, aloe leaf juice, and tangerine peel extract feature alongside less sexy (but still unscary) ingredients. And, as we’ve come to expect from Honest, there aren’t any parabens, phthalates, dyes, or synthetic fragrances.

Price: $11.99 for 10 ounces
